The Grisly Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever viewed, nothing has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of a viscerally violent as well as highly provocative film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish writer-director crafted a grim, bleak and often savage world with several minor , forlorn glimmers of hope.
While Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to push animation even more, the director explained that it was actually an attempt to communicate a widespread, multicultural message concerning “the shared root of each battle.”
This theme is communicated by means of a group of colorful pastel bears , clearly inspired by a well-known series of lovable characters.
Maturing in a community centered on militarism and the defense industry, many of these creatures are consumed by killing unicorns, thanks to a religious scripture that tells them they used to be masters of the woodland, before the horned beings drove them out.
A few haven’t fully accepted the brainwashing, and prefer to sample substances and engage sexually in the forest.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these colorful critters have visible genitals and obvious libidos.
For one especially vicious, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the war against the unicorns becomes a path to control — and especially to supremacy over his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
Bluey is a bully and an apparent psychopath , and when horror takes over his group and kills his teammates individually, he takes increasingly control personally, through ever more bloody, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, through a growing, deadly beast in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker said. “However it evolves into a more intense and sad movie. And ultimately, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars commences similar to one of the more quirky features from a renowned filmmaker, that discover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Then it evolves into something more like a more grim film from the same creator, including ever more explicit brutality , a noticeable connection to the actual tragedy of war.
By the end, it’s a full-on Grand Guignol bloodbath.
The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween movie kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who wish to watch a movie they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a plot which delivers unflinching brutality.
View it in a dark room with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow into your mind and take up residence there.
