Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
