European Football's Governing Body Launches Disciplinary Investigation Against Chelsea's Pedro Neto After Push Involving PSG Ball Boy.
UEFA has initiated formal action against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following an incident where he pushed over a sideline assistant in the Champions League defeat against PSG.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, pushed the youngster in stoppage time of Wednesday's knockout stage fixture in Paris – where his team suffered a 5-2 – which caused him falling from a chair.
The incident triggered a confrontation involving players from both teams.
The governing body confirmed the case has been opened against Neto for "unsporting behaviour" as per its disciplinary regulations.
"Disciplinary officials will decide on this case in due course," UEFA stated.
The Chelsea player apologised for the incident and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" when he sought to get back the match ball.
"That is not who I am. It was in the heat of the moment and I sincerely apologise. I gave him my shirt. I'm really sorry about it - I owe him an apology," Neto told the media.
"My French is not very good, so teammate Vitinha stepped in and explained to him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Eventually he saw the funny side and I gave him my shirt and said sorry repeatedly. He understood the context of the incident and was happy with how it was resolved."
Chelsea face Paris St-Germain in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, after Newcastle's visit at their home ground on Saturday in the Premier League.
